Dollar exchange rate in 2026: expert reveals when the currency will start to rise

According to ТСН: With the onset of 2026, official exchange rates have shown a downward trend. However, these fluctuations are situational and do not reflect overall trends throughout the year.

Forecasts for exchange rates

Economist Oleksiy Plotnikov shared his thoughts on the dollar and euro exchange rate in 2026 in an exclusive comment.

In the first days of January, the National Bank slightly lowered the indicators, but it is not worth expecting further declines. The expert believes that in the coming months, the American currency will likely begin to rise.

"We are assuming that the prescribed average annual rate is 45.7 UAH/USD. This means that the hryvnia will not strengthen. Most likely, it will gradually depreciate from January. However, the processes of devaluation may become slower," said Plotnikov.

The hryvnia exchange rate against the euro, in turn, depends not on the actions of the National Bank, but on the relationship in the major currency pair.

Market prospects

According to Plotnikov, the exchange rate will continue to grow in the market at least until the end of the first quarter. The further situation may change due to political uncertainty, global economic risks, and relations between the USA and the EU.

Experts have also presented forecasts for dollar and euro exchange rates in January 2026. Most analysts agree that the first week of January (until the 8–10th) will be a period of calm.

These forecasts are important for businesses and investors, as they can help navigate the unstable economic situation. The increase in the dollar exchange rate may affect the cost of imports, which, in turn, will impact the prices of goods and services for consumers. Observing the developments in the political and economic spheres will be key to understanding the further dynamics of the currency market.
