From 2025, Ukrainians will not be able to travel abroad without an international passport: new rules.
Starting from 2025, most Ukrainians will no longer be able to cross the border with just an internal passport. The rules for traveling abroad have changed, and now it is necessary to have an international passport.
At the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukrainians could leave the country by presenting only their internal passport. However, now exit is only possible with valid passport documents. Specifically, the following documents can be used:
- seafarer's identity document;
- crew member certificate;
- official passport of Ukraine;
- diplomatic passport of Ukraine;
- passport of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad;
- certificate of return to Ukraine (for entering Ukraine).
Can you travel abroad with an internal passport?
The internal passport certifies identity and citizenship within the country, while the international passport allows for exit and entry beyond its borders.
Therefore, to travel abroad, it is necessary to have an international passport. The use of an ID card is only possible in cases provided for by interstate agreements.
What to do if the international passport has expired?
The international passport of Ukrainians is valid for 10 years. If its validity period has expired, you must contact government authorities and obtain a new passport.
This can be done within 20 working days for the price of 1,042 hryvnias or within 7 working days for 1,682 hryvnias. If you are abroad and the validity of your international passport has expired or the document has been lost, you can return to Ukraine with a certificate of return.
Starting from 2025, Ukrainians will need to have an international passport to travel abroad. It will no longer be allowed to rely solely on an internal passport. Therefore, it is important to keep these changes in mind and to timely process the necessary documents for traveling abroad.Read also
