Water Prices Across Ukraine to Surge Starting June 2026: City-by-City Breakdown.
Sharp Increases in Water Tariffs for Ukrainian Cities
According to Novyny.live: Starting June 1, 2026, water tariffs in Ukrainian cities are set to rise significantly under a new legislative framework that empowers local governments to independently set water supply rates. This follows the enactment of Law No. 4777-IX in spring 2026, which allows municipalities with populations exceeding 100,000 residents to determine their own water pricing.
New Water Pricing Details
Under the updated tariffs, Dnipro will see water costs reach 86.83 UAH per cubic meter as of June. In Kryvyi Rih, the preliminary rate is set at 78 UAH per cubic meter. Lutsk’s municipal utility 'Lutskvodokanal' plans to hike its tariff from 28 UAH to 73 UAH. In Kyiv, water prices could approach around 89 UAH per cubic meter.
Furthermore, rates will vary widely across different Ukrainian cities:
- In Uzhhorod, the cost will exceed 96 UAH;
- In Ternopil, nearly 99 UAH;
- And in Pavlohrad, it has already reached 113 UAH.
In some cities, water costs may surpass 120–160 UAH.
This legislative initiative aims to introduce greater flexibility in tariff setting, but it has sparked public concern over potential increases in utility expenses.
The shift in water supply tariffs reflects the government’s effort to align utility services with market realities, yet it risks fueling social tensions as higher costs strain household budgets. Particularly alarming is that in certain regions, water prices could hit critical levels, raising fears about the affordability of essential resources for residents. Given these developments, local authorities must ensure transparency in tariff formation and prioritize the interests of their communities.
