Moldova Turns Away Ukrainian Drivers at Border Over Missing Vehicle Inspection Certificates.
Vehicle Technical Inspection Required at Moldova Border Crossing
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian motorists attempting to enter Moldova are being denied entry due to the absence of a mandatory vehicle technical inspection certificate. Under newly enforced regulations, this document is now a prerequisite for crossing into Moldova. Border guards are actively checking for the inspection certificate, which can only be obtained from an accredited service station after a thorough vehicle check.
The technical inspection requirement applies to all types of vehicles, including brand-new cars. Consequently, every driver planning to cross the border must have the certificate ready for presentation. In addition to the inspection document, travelers must also carry the following items:
- A biometric or international passport
- A valid driver's license
- The vehicle registration certificate
- An international 'Green Card' insurance policy
- A road vignette
For those traveling with children, it is essential to bring the child's passport or birth certificate, as well as written consent from the other parent for the child to leave the country. Furthermore, there are strict restrictions on transporting certain goods across the border. Prohibited items include:
- Weapons
- Narcotics
- Prescription medications without a doctor's prescription
- Meat, dairy products, honey, and seedlings without accompanying documentation
It is important to note that Ukraine remains under martial law and general mobilization, which prohibits men of conscription age from leaving the country. Additionally, there are limits on currency exports—up to €10,000 or equivalent without proof of fund origins. Drivers should exercise caution and double-check all required documents before departure to avoid unexpected issues at the border.
Moldova's new vehicle inspection rules are part of a broader government initiative to enhance road safety and improve control over vehicle standards. For Ukrainian drivers, this means adapting to stricter entry requirements to prevent delays or denials at the border. Given the ongoing martial law in Ukraine, strict adherence to all regulations is critical for ensuring the safety of both drivers and the state.
