For the first time in history, women will have more representation than men at the Olympics.

The Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has presented new information about the quotas for athletes at the 2028 Olympics.

In 2028, the number of women athletes will, for the first time in history, exceed the number of men athletes. Six new mixed events have also been added to the updated program.

The total number of athletes at the Los Angeles Olympics will be the same as in Paris in 2024 - 10,500. However, women will receive 5,333 places, while men will have 5,167. These will be the first Olympic Games where there are more women than men.

The IOC has also reduced the number of men's football teams at the 2028 Olympics in favor of women's teams. In women's football, 16 teams will participate, while only 12 will compete in the men's event.

Additionally, the number of women's teams in water polo will increase from 10 to 12 - the same number as men’s teams. In boxing, one more women’s weight category will be added - both tournaments will now have seven events.

Other changes include increasing the number of teams in 3x3 basketball to 24; for the first time, individual medals will be contested in three sports climbing disciplines.

Three types of events in coastal rowing will also be presented. The Olympic program will also include 50 meters breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke distances.

The new program of the 2028 Olympic Games will also feature six new mixed events: archery, artistic gymnastics, athletics (mixed 4x100m relay), rowing (mixed double sculls), golf, and table tennis.

The Summer Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles from July 14 to 30, 2028. The number of medals to be contested in the USA will be 351 - 22 more than in Paris 2024.
