Weezer's bassist's wife will receive a mental health program

According to The Sun: The wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, 52-year-old Jillian Shriner, has been granted permission to participate in a mental health program following allegations of shooting at police officers during a search for suspects in her area.

The court deemed her "fit and appropriate" for a two-year program that could lead to the dismissal of her criminal charges upon successful completion of treatment.

“If she successfully fulfills the terms of the program, the case will be closed by the court,” stated the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.

The incident occurred in April in the Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles, where police were searching for three suspects after a multi-vehicle accident on the freeway.

During the arrest, Jillian, also known by her maiden name Jillian Lauren, was seen standing in front of her home with a gun in her hands. According to police, she refused to follow multiple commands to drop the weapon, after which she opened fire.

She was shot in the shoulder during the use of force by an LAPD officer and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Jillian claimed she armed herself upon learning of the presence of suspects nearby, according to CBS News. No police officers were injured during the incident.

Video recordings showed Jillian, barefoot, lying on the ground while officers placed handcuffs on her.

She was arrested on charges of attempted murder and released after posting bail set at one million dollars, reports The New York Times.

Police conducted a search at the Shriner home and seized a 9mm pistol.

During the arrest, a family nanny was also arrested, but both women were later released, according to KTLA.

Scott Shriner's situation

The day after the incident, Scott Shriner was spotted walking his dogs near his home in Los Angeles. While speaking to reporters, he gave an unusual response to a question regarding his wife's arrest.

“See you at Coachella,” said the bassist, adding that his wife is "okay".

Scott and Jillian married in 2005 and are raising two adopted children.

As part of the mental health program, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Susan De Witt ordered Jillian to refrain from drugs and alcohol, continue weekly therapy sessions, undergo random checks, and attend at least three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings per week.

She is also prohibited from possessing or owning any firearms or knives.

The prosecutor's office stressed that "any violation" of the program's terms could lead to its dismissal and a return to court.

Jillian is scheduled to appear in court on January 9 to report on her progress.

The conflict with police occurred amid chaos in Eagle Rock as three men fled the scene of the crash.

According to eyewitnesses, one of them was bloodied from the head, mouth, and knees, trying to hide in a pool as police surrounded the area.

In addition to being the wife of Weezer's bassist, Jillian is a successful author of several nonfiction bestsellers.
