Pollution of the Seym River: it became known how long it will take to restore ecosystems.
A sugar factory in the Kursk region polluted the Seym River with about 5600 tons of contaminated water. Experts say that the restoration of the ecosystems of the Seym and Desna rivers will take 2-3 years. The director of the Institute of Hydrobiology of the NAS of Ukraine and the director of UkrHMI SES and NAS of Ukraine announced this at a press conference. They emphasized that water pollution affected the fish and destroyed dissolved oxygen in the water.
The ecological disaster on the Dniester River in 1983 is an example of rapid ecosystem recovery. Due to the dam burst, all living things within 500 km of the river were killed. However, recovery on unregulated rivers may take several years, according to the expert.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection, together with scientists and representatives of the State Water Agency, is working on measures to restore river and water ecosystems.
The pollution in the Desna River continues to move towards Kyiv. This information was provided by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources. He noted that the pollution has reached the Chernihiv region and is currently moving towards the capital.
It is not known whether the pollution of the Seym River was intentional or accidental.
