Fauja Singh, a Briton of Indian descent known for his achievements in marathon running, died as a result of being hit by a car in his native village of Bias Pind.
The athlete was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road. He was hospitalized, but he died from his injuries. The police are investigating the case and have arrested the suspected driver.
Fauja Singh began running marathons at the age of 89 and completed nine marathons, including the London, Toronto, and New York races between 2000 and 2013. In 2011, he became the first 100-year-old marathon runner, although the record was not recognized by Guinness due to a lack of birth documents.
In his autobiography released in 2011, Fauja Singh stated that he started sports to cope with the loss of loved ones.
