The Capture of Zaporizhzhia: Why the Kremlin Considers This a Key Objective in the War

According to UATV: Expert Serhiy Hrapskyi stated on the FREEdom TV channel that the strategic goal of the Kremlin in the war against Ukraine is to capture Zaporizhzhia. He emphasized that without capturing this region, further advancement of the Russian army towards Odesa makes no sense. The Kremlin intends to capture the entire territory of Ukraine, and Zaporizhzhia is a key element of the Russian army's strategy.

The Zaporizhzhia region has been included in the constitution of the Russian Federation, indicating its importance to the Kremlin. According to Hrapskyi, the Russian army has a three to four times advantage in strength and resources over Ukrainian units. This underscores the complexity of the situation for Ukrainian forces, who are facing a significantly stronger adversary.

Hrapskyi also noted that the Russian army has been conducting combat operations for over 16 months for Pokrovsk, whose population is 20 times smaller than that of Zaporizhzhia. The expert expressed doubt about the possibility of capturing Zaporizhzhia, considering the difficulties faced by the Russian army even in less populated areas.

'Naturally, this is beyond their capabilities' - Serhiy Hrapskyi

He noted that without mastering the road to Zaporizhzhia, it makes no sense to talk about any offensive actions in the direction of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.

Future Prospects

Thus, the capture of Zaporizhzhia becomes a key objective for the Kremlin, and further actions by the Russian army without this stage may be deemed futile.

The capture of Zaporizhzhia, as a strategic object, highlights not only the military ambitions of the Kremlin but also its intentions to expand control over Ukrainian territory. In the event of a successful capture of this region, it could open new avenues for an offensive on other key regions of Ukraine, particularly to the south. However, considering the significant losses and problems faced by the Russian army, the further development of the situation remains uncertain.
