The uprising, which took place on the night of April 29–30, 1919, ended in failure, and Oskilko surrendered to Polish forces in May 1919. He then spent two years in captivity, a severe ordeal for him.

After his release, Oskilko's fortunes shifted once more, but his life was abruptly cut short on June 19, 1926, in Horodok.
