Meeting of Zelensky and Trump: shared views on resolving the conflict in Ukraine

On September 27, 2024, in New York, an anticipated meeting took place between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The meeting was held at Trump Tower in Manhattan.

Zelensky expressed gratitude to Trump for the meeting and mentioned that it had been 5 years since their last personal meeting. The Ukrainian leader emphasized the shared perspective on the situation: "I think we have a shared view that the war in Ukraine must be stopped, and Putin cannot win. Ukraine must win." Zelensky also expressed a desire to discuss the details of his "victory plan".

Trump, in turn, stated his readiness to cooperate with "both sides" to resolve the conflict. "This country is going through hell... I've never seen anything like this terrible situation," he noted. The former U.S. president also emphasized that he has "good relations" with both Zelensky and Putin.

In response, Zelensky expressed his hope that the relations with him are still better than with Putin.

Trump stated that if elected, he is ready to cooperate with the Democrats to end the war in Ukraine. He expressed hope to find a "good" solution for both Ukraine and Russia before the possible inauguration.
