President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law on increasing state budget expenditures for 2024, aimed at strengthening the country's defense capability. According to the signed document, additional defense expenditures will amount to 495.3 billion hryvnias.

Information about the signing of the law was confirmed on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, as well as in the Telegram channel of the Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

According to Zheleznyak, this law sets a new record for expenditures for Ukraine - the total amount of expenditures now reaches 3.73 trillion hryvnias, which is 2.3 times the country's budget before the start of the full-scale war.

The adoption of this legislative act began back in July, when the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a draft amendment to the 2024 budget. Initially, it was proposed to increase expenditures by 500.3 billion hryvnias, of which 495.3 billion were planned to be directed directly to defense needs.

On September 2, the Budget Committee of the Verkhovna Rada recommended approving the revised government draft. On September 18, the Verkhovna Rada adopted amendments to the state budget, voting 298 in favor. On September 20, the law was signed by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk and on the same day handed over to the president for signing.
