A Woman from Maryland Discovered a Hidden Chest from 1947: What Was Inside.
According to ТСН: A Maryland resident became a TikTok star after finding a hidden chest in an old house from 1947, marked with the word 'Surprise.'
Sarah Lou's video (@shefoundthat), which has garnered over a million views, showcases this unusual moment.
'Strangely enough, I didn't even notice the built-in chest at first,' Lou said. 'I found it a few weeks after purchasing, while cleaning the attic and planning renovations. It felt like a real surprise.'
The chest was located in the attic bedroom, which Lou plans to convert into an office and creative space. In one of the drawers, she discovered the inscription '5/19/64,' but the exact history of the chest is unknown.
'Honestly, it probably holds craft supplies,' the owner added.
Sarah Lou greatly appreciates old houses for their unique and nostalgic charm.
'This is a sweet little cottage with enormous potential that preserves many stories and allows for new memories to be created,' she says.
Her renovation style reflects her love for vintage items:
'I love antiques, items with history, and anything that can be updated and given new life. I am renovating the house with my father to preserve its original charm while adapting it to my lifestyle.'
Despite the renovations, Sarah decided to leave the chest in its original state.
'I won't renovate it, just paint the wall around it and maybe change the handles. The chest itself will remain as is,' she assured.
This discovery occurred amid rising home renovation costs in the U.S. According to data from Houzz, average renovation costs have increased from $15,000 in 2020 to $24,000 in 2023, with kitchens, bathrooms, and living rooms being the most commonly updated.
Sarah Lou's unusual find highlights the importance of preserving historical heritage, even during home modernization. Her approach to renovation helps maintain the uniqueness of old houses, making them comfortable for modern living. This discovery has not only sparked excitement on social media but also serves as a reminder of the value of the past in today's world.
