Ukrainian forces are conducting a major operation in Russia's Kursk region, which has been ongoing for the sixth day.

This was reported by an official in an interview with AFP on condition of anonymity.

According to him, "thousands" of Ukrainian soldiers are participating in the operation, which significantly exceeds previous Russian estimates of 1,000 participants. The aim of the operation is to "stretch enemy positions, inflict maximum losses, and destabilize the situation in Russia, showing its inability to protect its own border," the official noted.

Ukrainian forces have advanced several kilometers into Russian territory, forcing the Russian army to immediately deploy reserves and additional equipment. The operation has "significantly boosted the morale of the Ukrainian army, state, and society," the official emphasized.

It is important to note that Ukrainian troops act "in strict accordance with international law" and do not intend to annex the occupied territories. The official also assured that Ukraine "will not create any problems for nuclear safety" due to the proximity of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant to the combat zone.

The Ukrainian official also noted that Western partners "indirectly participated in the planning" of the operation, judging by the active use of Western weapons.
