The Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive significantly higher salaries: lawmakers prepare a draft law on new contracts.
Draft Law on Increasing Military Salaries
According to Novyny.live: Members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine are working on a draft law that aims to increase the salaries of military personnel in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) upon signing new contracts. The Committee on National Security and Defense has already developed this draft law, which has been recommended for the first reading.
According to information, the increase in the basic salary for military personnel may be several times, aimed at improving financial conditions for the military. It is known that up to 50% of the current personnel are ready to continue their service under new conditions. Depending on rank and the danger of service, military personnel will receive monetary allowances, but specific amounts are currently unknown and are under consideration by the Ministry of Finance.
Appointment of a New Minister of Defense
On January 14, the Verkhovna Rada voted for the appointment of Mykhailo Fedorov as the Minister of Defense of Ukraine. 277 members of parliament voted for the appointment. As Yegor Chernev noted:
“Currently, the main task is to find funds to cover the financial expenses related to the new contracts.”
Chernev also emphasized that Fedorov will focus on the technological advancement of the AFU and the transition to new forms of warfare, which is an important aspect for modern military operations.
Increasing military salaries could significantly impact the motivation and stability of the AFU personnel, which is critically important in the context of the current situation in the country. Given the ongoing conflict and the need to support morale, such initiatives could help attract new military personnel and retain experienced soldiers within the ranks of the army. The appointment of a new Minister of Defense may also become an important factor in implementing these changes, guiding the AFU to adapt to modern challenges.
