Ukraine's Military Dismisses Russian Claim of Capturing Huliaipole Area: Kyiv Still Holds Ground.
Territorial Control in Zaporizhzhia Region
According to UATV: Vladyslav Voloshyn, a spokesperson for Ukraine's Southern Defense Forces, has rejected Russian military assertions that they have taken control of the Huliaipole area in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. He confirmed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) still maintain authority over the territory. According to Voloshyn, Moscow's statements are part of an information-psychological campaign meant to confuse both civilians and troops.
Voloshyn emphasized that on the left bank of the Zaporizhzhia region, over 15% of the land remains under Ukrainian military control. He stated that
“even on the left bank of the Zaporizhzhia region, the enemy has not managed to occupy the entire territory”(Vladyslav Voloshyn). This indicates a stable situation in the area, despite isolated incidents of Russian forces crossing into Ukrainian-held zones. Voloshyn noted that
“the recorded cases of infiltration by small enemy groups were purely demonstrative in nature”(Vladyslav Voloshyn).
Regional Dynamics and Land Holdings
The defense official also reported that Russian troops captured only 14 square kilometers of Ukrainian land in May. On the Oleksandrivka axis, the outlook is more favorable, as Ukrainian forces have liberated over 40 square kilometers there. Hence, even as Russian soldiers try to strengthen their positions, Ukrainian units continue to hold onto key areas.
This information highlights the critical nature of territorial control amid the ongoing war and points to the proactive efforts of Ukrainian forces in repelling Russian advances. While the situation in Zaporizhzhia Oblast remains tense, data showing minimal Russian territorial gains underscores the resilience of Ukraine's military. Holding onto strategic locations is vital for the region's long-term stability and for Ukraine's broader defensive posture.
