Athens Orchestra Canceled Matsuev Concert: Who Will Perform Instead

The Athens State Orchestra canceled the concert of Russian pianist Denis Matsuev, which was supposed to take place on November 21. Instead, another musician will take the stage. This decision is related to recent international events. Matsuev has long had close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin and supports his policies, particularly regarding Ukraine, which has led to a ban on his performances at events since 2022.

In 2018, the pianist received an Order of Honor from Putin for his contribution to the development of domestic culture and arts, and in February 2022, his performance with the Vienna State Orchestra was canceled due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Since then, Matsuev has not performed before a Western audience.

Calls to Cancel Opera Singer Netrebko's Performance in London

Former Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and ex-Ambassador of Ukraine to Great Britain Valeriy Zaluzhny called for the cancellation of Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko's concert in London. Fifty prominent figures in culture, politics, and civil society from Ukraine and other countries signed his open letter to the opera management. Among the signatories are Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Serhiy Kyslytsia, as well as writers Andriy Kurkov and Serhiy Zhadan.

After the recent international events, the number of calls to cancel performances by Russian artists and musicians who support the Kremlin's actions is increasing. This issue is sparking more discussions and appeals in various countries and is unlikely to fade away soon.
