Painted kilometers: expert shows how to check the real range of an electric car.
The real range of electric vehicles may be more modest than that claimed by manufacturers
According to automotive expert Yevhen Yermolov, while Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers claim a range of 800-900 kilometers, the actual figures may be significantly lower. This is due to different systems for estimating range in various countries.
There are three main standards for estimating energy consumption in the world - American, European, and Chinese. The strictest requirements are in the USA, where testing is conducted under real conditions: with a cold start, climate control turned on, and in city driving mode - explained Yermolov.
As an example, the expert cited the Tesla model, where the declared range varies depending on the region. In the USA, it indicates 525 kilometers, in Europe - 533 kilometers, and in China - 593 kilometers. This corresponds to certification requirements but does not necessarily reflect the actual range.
The expert advises potential buyers to check the real range by taking a test drive and to consider the technical features of electric vehicles. Also, unlike Tesla, Chinese electric vehicles lack a history of operation, and service maintenance in the regions can be difficult due to a lack of official dealers.
The advantage of Chinese electric vehicles is their low cost, which usually outweighs other considerations for Ukrainian buyers.
