Andre Wisdom found a new passion after the horrific attack that affected his football career GettyHe played for the 'Rams' until he became a victim of an attack during a robbery in Liverpool in 2020.
The 32-year-old Wisdom was attacked by armed criminals who stole his designer watches as he was leaving a party.
Although the attack did not prevent him from returning to play, he left 'Derby' the following year and spent two years away from football.
A new venture in real estate
Now, Wisdom has chosen a new path in real estate, investing in several houses near Liverpool that he rents out to his former club for young players.
In addition, he continues to play football for the amateur team FC United of Manchester, returning to the sport in 2023.
Struggling with the aftermath of the attack
However, his career has never returned to how it was before. Wisdom admitted he still feels pain from the injury.
“Who knows where I would be playing today if I hadn't been stabbed,” Wisdom said in an interview with BBC Sport.
“I wouldn't say that night ruined my career, but it certainly changed it.”
“I still feel body pain from the stab.”
Wisdom underwent trials at 'Portsmouth', 'Birmingham', and 'Sheffield United' after leaving 'Derby', but his body could not withstand the strain of playing again.
“My body just wasn’t the same. It was frustrating. I didn't have the same outputs of power and speed.”
“I came back too soon. I was too impatient, wanting to be back in a football environment.”
“I think it was my desire to cope with the emotions. I didn’t want to sit at home and go over everything that happened in my head.”
Andre Wisdom has gone through an incredibly tough period in his life, but he has managed to find a new purpose and establish himself in another field. His experience serves as an example of how even in difficult times, new opportunities can be found, and one can continue to move forward despite what has been endured. Sports and business in real estate have become new phases in his life that he continues to work on.
