£9 million construction project at risk due to financial difficulties

According to The Sun: A serious issue has arisen in a British village regarding a £9 million project that has stalled. The unfinished property has become a significant nuisance for local residents, causing "unbearable noise and inconvenience" for the last ten years.

27 new homes were planned at a cost of around £9 million. However, the project was halted after the construction company went bankrupt, leaving only a few completed structures. A significant portion of the area remains a "predominantly hazardous construction site," accumulating waste.

The St. Mabyn parish council has urged Cornwall Council to intervene and exercise the right to compulsory purchase to complete the project that has been underway for ten years.

Hard Drive Construction Ltd., responsible for the project's execution, announced liquidation with debts of over £340,000 in early February. Graham Smith, head of the St. Mabyn parish council, emphasized that "it is now in the public interest" to intervene at the Chapelfields site.

“The parish council has been in communication with local residents about this unfinished project and the unbearable discomfort for many years,” he stated.

The contractor Landmark Estates Mayben Ltd. cannot provide any guarantees regarding the completion of the work since their director, Mohamed Fatehamomed, has numerous bankrupt companies.

The St. Mabyn parish council hopes that Cornwall Council will change the planning conditions to make a larger portion of the new homes "affordable" for local residents.

“There is a very strong feeling in the community that Cornwall Council has caused us this terrible inconvenience, and we want to know what they plan to do to address the issue,” added Smith.

Cornwall Council has yet to comment on this situation.

This situation highlights the serious difficulties faced by local communities due to the financial problems of construction companies. Local residents hope for a prompt resolution, as the prospect of prolonged unfinished construction negatively impacts their daily lives.

We hope that Cornwall Council will find ways to address these issues to improve the lives of village residents and complete the project that promised changes for the community.
