China plans to increase its nuclear potential
According to the report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), China is outpacing all other nuclear states in increasing its nuclear potential, planning to add approximately 100 warheads each year starting in 2023. By the beginning of 2025, China is expected to have at least 600 nuclear warheads.
Nuclear arsenal modernization in 2024
According to the SIPRI report, in 2024 all nine states that possess nuclear weapons continued intensive modernization programs for their nuclear arsenals. Russia and the USA together hold about 90% of all nuclear weapons in the world, and both countries are actively developing modernization programs to increase their arsenals.
According to reports from international organizations, China plans to actively expand its nuclear potential, adding warheads to its arsenal each year. At the same time, all nuclear-armed countries continue to modernize their nuclear arsenals, indicating a general increase in nuclear activity in the world.
