Trump Administration Deports Ukrainians to War Zone: What You Need to Know

According to inkorr.com: The Trump Administration is planning the deportation of Ukrainians from the United States. According to the Washington Post, the U.S. government intends to send approximately 80 Ukrainians back to Ukraine, which is currently in a state of war, as early as next Monday. The Department of Justice confirmed these plans in court documents, stating that Ukrainians could be sent either to Ukraine or Poland via military flights.

The Ukrainian ambassador to the U.S. confirmed that the consulate is aware of the situation regarding these individuals, who have received final deportation orders due to violations of U.S. laws.

Risks for Deported Ukrainians

Lawyers warn that those being deported face serious danger. Since Ukraine is currently a war zone, there is a risk of them being conscripted into the army and sent to the front lines, where the threat to life is extremely high, noted lawyers Eric Lee and Chris Godshall-Bennett.

According to ICE information, in the current fiscal year, the U.S. has already deported 53 Ukrainians. If all 80 individuals are deported, it will set a record for recent years.

Stories of Deported Ukrainians

Among those slated for deportation is Roman Surovcev, who owns a business in Dallas and is a father of two children. Also facing deportation is Andriy Berynk, who arrived in the U.S. at 13 years old as a Jewish refugee. Both have expressed their outrage at the situation.

'I may deserve deportation, but not to a war zone - not to where conflict is currently taking place'

The Ukrainian ambassador called the deportation process a commonly used legal mechanism. A representative from the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that all detainees are entitled to proper legal procedures, but did not provide information regarding the next steps for deportation.

The deportation of Ukrainians from the U.S. could place them in a precarious and dangerous situation due to the war in Donbas and the threat of conscription into the Ukrainian army. In the current pandemic and economic instability, it is hard to imagine how these individuals will be able to adapt in their home country after such a decision by the U.S. government.
