Strong wind and snow are coming: 10 actions to save your garden from damage.
According to ТСН: Gardeners are urged not to delay preparing their plots, as strong winds and snow can cause serious harm to plants, trees, and property. Even one bad weather event after careful garden care can negate months of work if necessary precautions are not taken.
Experts emphasize that there is still a possibility to reduce potential damage. Households are advised to perform 10 essential actions to help protect garden furniture, pots, and greenery.
Main tips for preparing the garden
In particular, fragile pots should be moved indoors or tightly grouped and weighed down with water, keeping them a bit away from windows. It is also important to check outbuildings: doors and windows should be securely closed, and all damage should be repaired in advance.
Young trees require additional support, as their roots are not yet strong enough. It is recommended to use stakes or temporary ties, leaving a small space for the natural movement of the trunk. Unsecured items and garden furniture are better removed or connected together and weighed down.
Special attention should be paid to trash bins — they should be secured and tightly closed. It is also recommended to prune dry and damaged branches, prop up low-growing plants, remove hanging baskets and feeders, and cover delicate plants with fabric or burlap.
In connection with possible heavy rains, experts advise checking drainage and gutters. Clogged drainage systems can lead to flooding and soil rot, while aerating the lawn helps water absorb faster.
It is worth noting that even in the coldest period of the year, roses require care. Experts emphasize that proper pruning in January significantly impacts growth strength and the number of buds.
Thus, preparing the garden for bad weather not only helps preserve plants but also saves time and effort spent on their care. By following simple recommendations, gardeners can be confident that their garden will withstand all the whims of the weather.
