Starting from 2026, gasoline prices will rise by 7 hryvnias: expert names the reason

According to inkorr.com: From January 1, 2026, gasoline prices could rise by 5-7 hryvnias per liter, despite the fact that oil prices and the dollar exchange rate remain stable. This forecast

'was voiced' by the founder of the Prime group of companies, Dmytro Lyoshkin.

Reasons for Fuel Price Increases

The expert notes that the fuel market in Ukraine has decreased by 10-15%, but gas station profits will increase. This is due to an increase in wholesale margins of about 20% and rising excise duties. Thus, despite a stable exchange rate and oil price, fuel prices will noticeably rise.

Lyoshkin emphasizes that since the start of the war, gasoline consumption has significantly decreased, as many drivers have switched to electric vehicles, but the number of gas stations has remained unchanged. Gas station owners are looking for ways to maintain their income.

Why Drivers Are Overpaying for Fuel

Lyoshkin claims that Ukrainians are currently overpaying almost twice for a liter of fuel due to:

  • before the war, the markup was 5-6 hryvnias per liter;
  • now it reaches 10-15 hryvnias;
  • this allows gas stations not only to survive but also to open new stations.

'It's especially amusing to watch the promotions and discounts,' Lyoshkin ironizes. 'On such days, they simply shear you less than usual, but it looks like they are giving you a gift.'

The expert believes that real fuel consumption has fallen by 40% since 2022, but the number of gas stations does not decrease. On the contrary, they are turning into 'mini-entertainment centers' with cafes and shops, and their service often looks better than in EU countries.

'Going to a gas station has become an event for us. And it's nonsense - in a poor country, gas stations look cooler than in Europe. But we pay for it,' he emphasizes.

According to Lyoshkin, the growth of new gas stations and the lack of state regulation of pricing will lead to further increases in fuel prices for Ukrainians.

He previously noted that the increase in excise duties will also contribute to rising fuel prices, particularly that a liter of autogas may rise by 1 hryvnia already in February 2026. The National Bank predicts that by the end of 2026, fuel prices will rise by at least 8%.

It was also noted that gasoline in Ukraine may rise to 70 hryvnias due to restrictions on the import of Indian oil products produced from Russian oil.

The forecasts for rising gasoline prices indicate that car owners should be prepared for new expenses. In times of economic instability, it is important to keep track of changing conditions in the fuel market to adjust their financial plans. The state of the market and political decisions directly affect fuel prices in the country, requiring a careful approach from consumers.
