The rising energy costs that have been in effect since October 1 make it impossible for many Brits.

Savvy individuals are trying to stay warm without breaking the bank by purchasing electric blankets and installing thermal curtains.

To keep heat in your home, it is recommended to buy a door draft excluder.

Currently, a draft excluder from Aldi is available for just £5.99, offered in various styles including dog, pumpkin, and cream.

Place the excluder measuring 80 x 20 cm on the door frame to retain heat and prevent drafts.

“Keep the draughts away by giving your home a cozy look,” Aldi explained.

This practical product is already available while stocks last, so don’t hesitate to purchase.

Saving on Heating Costs

Fitting a draft excluder on the door frame is an excellent way to save this winter.

Experts from the Energy Saving Trust explained how much you can save by eliminating draughts.

“Sealing drafts at windows, floors, and doors can save you around £85 a year in the UK,” they said.

The experts also emphasized that by addressing these issues, you can lower your thermostat temperature.

“Homes without draughts are comfortable at lower temperatures, allowing you to lower the thermostat which will save you even more on energy costs,” reported the experts.

According to their data, a simple reduction of the thermostat from 22˚C to 21˚C could save you up to £90 a year in the UK.

If you’re not a fan of the Aldi product, a draft excluder for 99 pence on Amazon is an excellent solution for quality insulation in your home.

5 Ways to Keep Your Home Warm This Winter

Property expert Joshua Houston has shared his tips.

1. Curtains

“Windows are a common place for cold to enter the house as they may have small gaps that allow air in. Always close the curtains when it gets dark,” he said.

This simple method creates an additional layer of warmth as it can act as 'insulation' between the window and curtains.

2. Rugs

“The floor is another area in the house where heat can escape, creating a cold feeling,” he continued. “You may have noticed that on cold days your floor is unpleasant to walk on as your feet freeze.

“Add rugs in areas where there is no carpet, as they create an insulation layer between the bare floor and the room.”

3. Check Your Insulation

Inspect your pipes, loft, cellars, and floors.

“Duvet insulation is a very good choice and is more affordable compared to other insulations; a large sack costs about £30,” Joshua explained.

4. Keep Internal Doors Closed

“Family members often gather in one room at night, usually in the kitchen or living room,” Joshua noted.

“That means you only need to heat a small part of your home, and closing the doors helps to keep the heat in and the cold out.”

5. Block Draughts

Don't forget to check cat flaps, chimneys, and letterboxes as they can let cold air in if not sealed.

This cost-effective product seals gaps around your doors and windows, preventing warm air from escaping outside.

All you need to do is cut the strip to your desired length, peel off the protective film, and stick it to the chosen surface.

The strip is suitable for sealing gaps between 3.5 and 5.5 mm and comes in three colors: brown, black, and white to match your home's design.

Additionally, this useful tape also reduces noise and dust, making it an extremely versatile product.
