Arsenal has left Jesus out of the Champions League squad: who made it in

According to The Sun: 15-year-old Max Dovman has made it into Arsenal's Champions League squad, but there is one important exception from the team.

Manager Mikel Arteta formed his squad for the most significant part of the competition on Wednesday, following the release of the match schedule last week.

The 'Gunners' coach made a bold decision to include 15-year-old Dovman, who has impressed everyone with his performances from the bench after debuting in the Premier League this season.

However, Arteta did not include striker Gabriel Jesus in the starting lineup.

Jesus, purchased from Manchester City for £45 million in 2022, has still not returned to play after an ACL injury in January, although he was seen on the pitch during rehabilitation last month.

Meanwhile, Kai Havertz, who recently underwent knee surgery, is still included in the squad.

All eight summer signings for Arsenal have also joined the team.

Among other notable absentees, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly can be mentioned. However, both can be included in each match of the 'List B', which allows for an unlimited number of players under 21 to be on the squad if they meet UEFA's criteria.

UEFA defines players who can be included in 'List B' as individuals 'born on 1 January 2004 or later who have been eligible to play for the club for a continuous period of two years from the day of their 15th birthday.'

Arsenal's Champions League Squad List A

Goalkeepers: David Raya, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Tommy Setford

Defenders: William Saliba, Cristian Mosquera, Ben White, Piero Hincapié, Gabriel, Jurrien Timber, Ricardo Calafiori

Midfielders: Martin Ødegaard, Eberechi Eze, Cristian Norgaard, Leandro Trossard, Noni Madueke, Mikel Merino, Kai Havertz, Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, Max Dovman

Forwards: Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Viktor Gyökeres

This feature allows young talent Dovman to effectively not fall under 'List B', explaining his inclusion in 'List A'.

If Dovman plays in the Champions League before his 16th birthday on December 31, he will become the first 15-year-old to ever play in this tournament.

Currently, the youngest Champions League debutant is Youssoufa Moukoko, who played for Borussia Dortmund at 16 years and 18 days in 2020.

Arsenal will begin their European journey at the end of this month when they play against Athletic Bilbao on September 16.

The 'Gunners' will also face Slavia Prague, Inter, and Club Brugge away, while hosting Olympiacos, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Kairat Almaty at the Emirates Stadium.
