The match ended in a 1-1 draw, and Arsenal lost to United in the penalty shootout.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring in the second half, but Gabriel Magalhães equalized. Arsenal could not take advantage of the numerical superiority as Diogo Dalot received a red card, and they lost 5-3 in the penalty shootout.

Nine months after the match, the club was penalized by the FA for failing to provide Manchester United with 15% of the tickets. At the Emirates Stadium, which has a capacity of 60,704 spectators, only 8,000 tickets were allocated for away fans.

The FA noted that the penalty will come into effect if Arsenal fails to confirm that it will comply with the rules this season or does not adhere to them at the beginning of the new FA Cup.

“The Professional Game Board (PGB) has sanctioned Arsenal for violating rule 192 of the FA Cup 2024-25 regarding the third round match against Manchester United on January 12, 2025.”

FA rule 191 states that for all matches, except for semifinals and finals, the visiting team has the right to request up to 15% of the tickets, which equates to 9,000.

Even if the stadium is not full, visiting teams must receive the same percentage of tickets if the request was made within four days after the draw.

Rule 192 obliges the home club to meet ticket requirements according to rule 191, which Arsenal failed to do.

SunSport sent a request to Arsenal for comment.

Next Arsenal match in the FA Cup

Arsenal will play in the FA Cup in January when the third round matches take place.

In recent years, the club has worn completely white kits in the FA Cup to draw attention to the issue of knife crime. Arsenal is running a campaign called “No More Red” aimed at ensuring the safety of young people and preventing knife-related violence.

Thus, the situation regarding the conditional penalty highlights the need to adhere to ticket allocation rules in major tournaments. Arsenal, as one of the top clubs in the country, must confirm its readiness to implement any changes in this area to avoid similar problems in the future.
