Yastremska almost crushed Kovinic in an hour and reached the third round of the Australian Open.
Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska (WTA 33) advanced to the 1/16 finals of the Australian Open 2025.
In the second round, the Ukrainian crushed Danka Kovinic (Montenegro, WTA 1289) in two sets in 51 minutes.
Dayana Yastremska (Ukraine) (32) - Danka Kovinic (Montenegro) - 6:0, 6:1.
This was the first meeting between the opponents. Despite the crushing score, Kovinic had a chance to break serve, but Dayana did not allow her opponent to convert her only break point.
At the start of AO-25, Dayana defeated Mayar Sherif (Egypt, WTA 65), while Danka shocked Lulu Sun (New Zealand, WTA 44).
The next opponent for Yastremska at the Aus Open will be the winner of the match Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan, WTA 7) - Iva Jovic (USA, WTA 191).
Last season, Dayana reached the semifinals of the Australian major. This is already the third time in seven appearances on the Melbourne courts that she has made it to the third round.
Yastremska became the second representative of Ukraine, after Marta Kostyuk, to reach the 1/16 finals of AO-25. On January 16, Elina Svitolina will continue her performance in Australia. Angelina Kalinina, Yulia Starodubtseva, and Daria Snigur were eliminated in the first round.
