Google and the National Science Agency of Australia (CSIRO) announced the start of a large-scale partnership aimed at developing state-of-the-art software to protect the country's critical infrastructure from cyberattacks, reports Public Broadcasting.

The project involves the creation of software that will automatically detect and fix network vulnerabilities, ensuring the uninterrupted operation of important state facilities such as hospitals, defense establishments, and energy companies.

The software being developed will be adapted to comply with Australian legislative requirements, which is an important step in tackling the global issue of software supply chain vulnerabilities.

The collaboration between Google and CSIRO has emerged against the backdrop of a growing threat of cyberattacks increasingly targeting Australia's critical infrastructure. Over the past two years, the number of such attacks has sharply increased, resulting in the leakage of personal information of millions of Australians. In response, the Australian government has introduced stricter requirements for critical infrastructure operators, mandating them to not only report cyber incidents but also prevent them.

This project is part of Google's large-scale initiative, under which the company has committed to investing 1 billion Australian dollars over five years in developing cybersecurity in Australia.

The project with CSIRO aims to create software that will be more aligned with local regulatory standards, which will help increase trust and ensure high-quality protection.
