Biden is not sure that the transfer of power will be peaceful in the US.
US President Joe Biden expressed doubts about a peaceful transfer of power in case of Donald Trump's defeat in the 2024 presidential elections.
This was Biden's first interview since announcing he would not run for president. During a conversation with CBS News chief correspondent, he noted the threat posed by former US president and current Republican candidate Donald Trump.
When asked if he is confident that a peaceful transfer of power will take place in January 2025, Biden answered, 'no'.
'If Trump loses, I'm not sure of that. He seriously says that 'if we lose, there will be a bloody massacre, these will be stolen (elections).' Look at what they are trying to do in local electoral districts where people are counting votes,' Biden said.
It is worth noting that the presidential elections in the US will take place on November 5, 2024. Usually, the newly elected president and vice president take office on January 20 of the following year, after the inauguration (so this Time on January 20, 2025).
The main candidates for the head of state are US Vice President Kamala Harris (from the Democrats) and former President Donald Trump (from the Republicans), who did not recognize his defeat in 2020 and questioned the legality of the election results.
