Third Army Corps Strikes Russian Supply Lines Deep Inside Occupied Luhansk Region.
Drone Battalion Carries Out Strategic Operation
According to UATV: On May 31, 2023, operators from the unmanned systems battalion of Ukraine's Third Army Corps targeted Russian military logistics facilities in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk Oblast. Their drones reached the Izvaryno checkpoint area, located more than 205 kilometers behind enemy lines. This operation came as a direct response to Moscow's recent claims of having fully seized the Luhansk region.
Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky, the corps commander, stated:
“In response to the enemy's declarations about completely capturing Luhansk Oblast, we announce an operation to control logistical routes in Luhansk Oblast and Eastern Slobozhanshchyna.” - Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky
His remarks make clear that Ukrainian forces are determined to actively counter occupation troops and maintain influence over strategically vital supply corridors.
A platoon commander of attack drones, call sign 'Skhid' (East), who is a native of the Luhansk region, plays a key role in this mission. He has been awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine for his courage and professionalism. The operation against Russian forces in Luhansk Oblast is part of a broader Ukrainian strategy aimed at regaining control over its territory.
Key Settlements in the Conflict Zone
Among the key settlements located in the conflict zone are:
- Luhansk
- Starobilsk
- Alchevsk
- Bryanka
- Kadiivka
These areas remain under Russian control, but the Ukrainian army continues active operations to degrade the enemy's capabilities.
The drone battalion's action highlights growing Ukrainian military activity in Luhansk Oblast despite significant Russian resistance. This strike is a crucial element of Ukraine's strategy to reclaim occupied territories and underscores Kyiv's intent to counter Moscow's narrative of total regional control. At the same time, the use of unmanned technology in combat reflects how Ukrainian troops are adapting to modern warfare and exploring new methods of engagement.
