The White House froze funding for the University of Pennsylvania due to a transgender swimmer.
The President of the United States suspended funding for the University of Pennsylvania in the amount of $175 million due to the participation of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas in sports competitions. Lia Thomas competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and won victories in the Ivy League. In February, Donald Trump banned transgender athletes from competing with female athletes, and therefore the swimmer filed a lawsuit. Representatives of the University of Pennsylvania have not yet confirmed receipt of the funding suspension notice.
In other news, transgender referee Sapir Berman from Israel officiated a football match between Northern Ireland and Montenegro, and she will also be the referee for the Montenegro vs. Kazakhstan match. Sapir Berman has worked as a referee for a long time and changed her gender in 2021. She expressed her satisfaction with this opportunity and stated that it is the beginning of a new era in her career.
