Probe into Potential Insider Trading on Prediction Markets

According to Espreso.tv: A federal investigation in the United States is examining whether insider information was used to place bets on prediction markets tied to President Donald Trump’s speeches. Gabriel Perez, a White House teleprompter operator, is suspected of earning more than $100,000 by wagering on the content of the president’s addresses before they were delivered to the public.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is currently leading the inquiry. According to investigators, Perez began placing bets on the Kalshi platform in late 2025. The wagers allegedly involved roughly a dozen presidential speeches, including:

  • the State of the Union address;
  • remarks at the World Economic Forum in Davos;
  • the Medal of Honor ceremony.

In March 2026, the White House circulated a memo banning the use of non-public information for betting. Following these events, Perez was suspended from his duties and placed on unpaid administrative leave. Despite this, federal prosecutors in Manhattan declined to open a criminal case. The CFTC, however, continues its civil investigation.

President Donald Trump, commenting on the situation, called it 'deeply unfortunate,' as stated by his press secretary, Karoline Leavitt.

The unfolding case has raised concerns about potential abuse of position and the ethics of leveraging non-public information. It underscores the growing scrutiny around transparency and accountability within government institutions.

This investigation into insider betting on prediction markets highlights the critical need for ethical standards and openness in federal operations. The controversy is testing public trust in the Trump administration, and the absence of criminal charges may draw criticism from opposition figures and the broader public. How the situation evolves could significantly affect the White House’s reputation and the political climate across the United States.
