More than a hundred brigades: Zelensky responded to new calls from the US to lower the draft age.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, reacted to calls from US representatives to lower the draft age, emphasizing the priority of technical support for existing brigades.
'Equipment - armored vehicles, artillery, everything that is needed in each brigade. However, in a large number of brigades, equipment constantly breaks down or requires repairs,' emphasized the President of Ukraine.
According to the head of state, currently, more than 100 brigades are on the battlefield, each of which needs adequate supply on a daily basis. Zelensky stressed that before discussing increasing the number of the army, it is necessary to ensure that existing units have a sufficient amount of equipment and weapons.
'A person must be protected. Not just protected, but must have appropriate weapons and knowledge. This is what our partners should provide to the Ukrainian army,' the president noted.
The issue of technical support for the Ukrainian army was discussed during the meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in Kyiv, attended by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and the president's advisor on strategic issues Oleksandr Kamyshin.
It is worth noting that the initiative to lower the draft age to 18 years met with sharp criticism from experts who warn of potential catastrophic demographic consequences for Ukraine.
It should be noted that earlier, President Zelensky categorically opposed lowering the draft age, emphasizing the priority of technological re-equipment of the army.
