The 67-year-old Rangnick was filmed racing across the grass of the Bilino Polje Stadium during halftime.
The coach passed all the players and stopped in front of the tunnel.
At the same time, Bosnia's coach, Sergej Barbarez, applauded the fans.
Reasons for the unusual situation
This unusual scene had its justification, as Rangnick recently underwent emergency surgery on his ankle in the summer.
The first operation was successful, however, an infection later occurred.
Rangnick had to go back to the hospital and needed another surgery. Currently, he is trying to reduce his physical strain.
After Austria's 2:1 victory, however, he likely would have smiled.
Marcel Sabitzer, former United player, put the team ahead, then Edin Dzeko equalized. The final goal was scored by Konrad Laimer in the 65th minute.

Austria's next matches
This result left Rangnick's team with 12 points, just a few points behind Bosnia but with a game in hand.
Rangnick briefly managed United during the second half of the 2021/22 season, played 29 matches, and achieved 11 wins with 8 losses.
He left Old Trafford in 2022 and now manages the Austrian national team.
Austria has four more qualifying matches on their way to the World Cup in the summer. The next match is on October 9 in San Marino, three days later in Romania. The qualifiers will end with matches against Cyprus and Bosnia.
This event highlights not only Ralf Rangnick's sportsmanship but also his willingness to adapt to difficult conditions. His role in the team and his attention to health demonstrate the desire to succeed despite challenges. Furthermore, the game shows that the Austrian team has the potential and willingness to fight for a place in the World Cup.
Simultaneously, the victory in this game emphasized the importance of teamwork, as all players were able to work together to achieve the result. This is only the beginning for Austria on their path to international competitions.
