As a result of a lightning strike during a football match in Peru, one of the players died, and five more were injured. It is reported that the referee ordered the game to be stopped when the thunder occurred. As a result of the strike, 39-year-old player Jose Ugo de la Cruz Meza died, and 40-year-old goalkeeper Juan Chocca Llacta suffered serious body burns. Other injured people are in stable condition. The tragedy occurred during a regional tournament in the city of Chilca, Huancayo province.

The match was interrupted when the team "Juventud Bellavista" was winning with a score of 2-0. After the incident, the public called for strengthening safety protocols during sports events, especially in mountainous areas. It was proposed to install protective systems and consider weather forecasts to immediately stop activities in the event of a storm.
