Bloomberg: US and NATO prepare response to military cooperation between Russia and North Korea against Ukraine.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin declared a "very, very serious" situation regarding the possibility of North Korean military personnel being sent to Ukraine. According to the White House, about 3000 military personnel from North Korea are currently being trained in Russia.
According to South Korean intelligence documents that were provided to allies and reviewed by Bloomberg, the first group of 1500 elite special forces soldiers is already training in Russia's Far East. This is part of a planned contingent that could reach 10,000 North Korean soldiers.
South Korea will present intelligence data at the NATO North Atlantic Council meeting on Monday. According to sources familiar with the situation, potential Alliance responses being considered include strengthening support for Ukraine and expanding partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region.
Experts suggest that deploying thousands of North Koreans as combat units to Ukraine could prompt South Korea to provide Kyiv with more direct support, including lethal weapons, which Seoul has so far avoided.
President Zelensky stated that North Korea will send military personnel to Ukraine within a few days.
