Situation with the Goalkeeper

Onana, 29, had a tough season, filled with mistakes that cost the team. United finished the season in 15th place — the worst result in the club's history in the Premier League.

This led to Onana losing his starting position, as Amorim chose Altay Bayındır to start the season. Now Onana may face difficulties with match practice, especially after the signing of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for £18.5 million.

Next Steps

According to The Athletic, the situation with Onana began to deteriorate even before the start of the preseason camp, when the goalkeeper showed up at the club wishing to get a new contract. He believed he deserved better conditions after a 25% salary cut due to missing out on the Champions League.

“This position did not please Amorim,” the source reports.

Despite this, United decided not to sell Onana during the summer transfer window, even when the goalkeeper's agent sought clarification. The club confirmed his involvement in Amorim's plans.

However, the 'Red Devils' still signed a new goalkeeper based on Bayındır's performances in the Premier League. Among the targets was Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa.

However, the high transfer fee for Martinez, exceeding £30 million, and his expensive contract conditions made him a backup option, and United turned to Lammens.

This summer, only Monaco showed serious interest in transferring Onana, but negotiations did not progress further as the French club learned that the goalkeeper costs at least £30 million.

Thus, the situation with Andre Onana remains tense, and further decisions from Manchester United management could significantly impact his career and the team's success. The battle for a place in the lineup is now even more intense, considering the new transfers.
