Deirdre Brown, Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the OSCE, condemned the systematic torture, abuse, and execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russia. She confirmed that the UN Commission on Investigation of Crimes in Ukraine concluded that Russia's use of torture against prisoners of war and civilian detainees constitutes crimes against humanity.

Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, overwhelming evidence shows that Russia continues to disregard international law. The United Kingdom unequivocally condemns reports of systematic torture, abuse, and execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russia, - she stated.

Brown emphasized the need for independent investigations and holding all guilty parties accountable. She urged Russia to adhere to international humanitarian law and to release all arbitrarily detained individuals, including three members of the Special Monitoring Mission.

The United Kingdom also demands that Russia treat all detainees humanely and provide unfettered access to places of detention in accordance with the Geneva Conventions.
