A British company will open a factory in Sheffield for artillery production

The British company BAE Systems plans to open a new factory in Sheffield for artillery production. This project will cost 25 million pounds and will aim to support the Ukrainian army. The factory is expected to start operating in 2025.

This move cancels the company's previously made decision to close weapons production in the UK in 2023. Due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has lasted nearly three years, there has been increased interest in such projects.

The new factory is set to manufacture M777 howitzers, which are already successfully used by Ukrainian military. This weapon is known for its reliability and mobility. Although Ukraine has already received several M777 howitzers from the United States, Canada, and Australia, many of them require repair or refurbishment.

'BAE has also received contracts for the production of spare parts for M777 howitzers for the US,' The Telegraph noted.
