NATO has for the first time deployed a British destroyer against a Russian ship.
The British destroyer HMS Duncan intercepted the Russian military vessel 'Vice Admiral Kulakov' in British territorial waters in the North Sea. The operation was conducted on direct orders from NATO's Allied Naval Command.
Operation in the North Sea
According to inkorr.com: For the first time, a British ship received orders from NATO, rather than London. The Type 45 destroyer, accompanied by a Wildcat helicopter, escorted the Russian vessel during its passage through the English Channel to the island of Ushant, near the French coast. To monitor the movement of the military ship, HMS Duncan utilized modern sensors and technologies.
Collaboration with Allies
The operation lasted from last Friday to Sunday and involved the French Navy and a Dutch NH90 helicopter. Minister of the Armed Forces, Al Carrns, stated: 'The Royal Navy is ready to respond to any activity of the Russian Navy. We conduct regular monitoring operations to protect Britain and our territorial waters.'
The action of the British destroyer in intercepting the Russian ship 'Vice Admiral Kulakov' vividly demonstrates effective cooperation among NATO member countries in ensuring security and control in maritime spaces. It underscores the importance of joint actions in response to potential threats from other states, as well as the readiness of allies to act coherently when necessary.
