Among the stores that will soon start selling Debenhams products are well-known Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Nordstrom.

The company, which recently changed its name from Boohoo, aims to capitalize on the popularity of its brands in the US market.

Famous British brands such as Boohoo, Karen Millen, Coast, and Warehouse will be available online through key department stores.

Additionally, Nasty Gal is returning to the American market after eight years since being sold to a British company.

The deal involves selling British brands through American retailers' online platforms, which attract over 350 million shoppers each month.

Significant Step

CEO of Debenhams Group Dan Finley commented on this strategic initiative.

“Launching in the US is an opportunity to present our beloved British fashion brands to new audiences abroad, starting with well-known department stores,” he noted.

“With these partnerships, our brands can now reach millions of potential buyers across the US, opening new prospects for British fashion in one of the largest retail markets in the world.”

This move comes six years after the financial collapse of Debenhams.

At its peak, the company had 150 stores but closed the last one in May 2021.

Encouraging Signs

Currently, the company reports 'encouraging' signs of success for its US launch.

In August, Macy’s launched an advertising campaign accompanying the return of Nasty Gal to its site.

Additionally, Debenhams noted that Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom also observed 'immediate customer interest in the company’s portfolio.'

“Everyone now has the opportunity to offer interesting products from the most famous British brands with unique offerings,” added a company representative.

“The genuine desire we are witnessing for our brands underscores the strength of British fashion on the international stage, and we look forward to the opportunity to build on this momentum with our American partners.”

Refined Networks, a company specializing in expanding brands internationally, has become a partner in this deal.

This development occurs amid financial difficulties for Debenhams, which include rising losses and declining sales.

Recently, the company considered the possibility of selling the PrettyLittleThing brand as part of a reorganization.

Debenhams is already turning over about £50 million in annual savings and has reduced its workforce by 30% to facilitate business transformation.

Financial results indicate losses of £263.3 million for the year ending in February, a significant increase compared to the previous year when losses were £146.4 million. Revenue decreased by 17% to £1.22 billion.

The company also conflicts with Mike Ashley's Frasers Group, which holds a 29% stake in Debenhams. Frasers voted against several resolutions at Debenhams' annual meetings due to dissatisfaction with financial results, leading to a drop in share value of more than half over the year.

Additional Store Information

The British department store chain is returning to the US after 25 years of absence.

Recently, one of the major British department stores became a victim of a cyberattack, leading to a customer data leak.

It is also worth noting the Black Friday sales that Selfridges plans to offer this year.

Do not forget about all the retailers closing their stores in the coming month.
