Former Minister Sobolev Takes on New Role in the President’s Office: What He Will Be Working On.
Oleksiy Sobolev Appointed to Economic Team
According to UATV: Oleksiy Sobolev, who previously served as Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, is joining the economic division of the Presidential Office. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this appointment on July 17, 2023. Kyrylo Budanov played a key part in identifying the priorities for Sobolev’s new responsibilities within the team.
Zelenskyy highlighted that Sobolev’s background equips him to help shape economic policy and work closely with both the government and parliament. The president stated,
'The key is to support Ukrainian producers at every level of state authority and to implement agreements with partners as fully and quickly as possible.' Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Focus Areas in the Presidential Office
According to Zelenskyy, a major part of Sobolev’s work will involve maintaining steady communication between state institutions and the business community through existing formats within the Presidential Office. These changes come alongside the appointments of Yevhen Khmara as acting Minister of Defense and Andrii Sybiha as acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.
This move signals the government’s intention to strengthen its economic focus amid the challenges facing the country. Given the current political climate and recent cabinet reshuffles, fostering effective dialogue between state agencies and the private sector could prove critical for sustaining economic stability and growth. Another key task will be following through on commitments made with international partners, which may shape Ukraine’s economic outlook in the near term.
