Despite millions in the bank, a collection of supercars, and numerous titles, it all began in humble times for Canelo. He grew up in poverty in a small town of Juanacatlán in the state of Jalisco, where the population is just 10,000.
Canelo is one of eight kids in the family. He worked in the family ice cream shop from the age of six, helping his father.
“I was very happy selling ice cream and pursuing my dream,” he told SunSport in Riyadh after announcing his fight with Crawford.
He further recalls: “My father taught me to work, to respect labor, to be honest, it made me the man I am today.”
Canelo always stood out despite his modesty. His freckles and red hair, for which he was nicknamed 'Canelo' (cinnamon), became the subject of mockery.
After one incident of bullying, he decided to respond, which gave him the push to realize his calling for boxing.
“I was playing football when it happened. This guy hit me, and I cried,” he recounts to another host.
“Then I hit him back, and that was the beginning of everything. I remember that punch, it was great.”
Canelo quickly began boxing, inspired by his older brothers, who were also boxers.
After a brief amateur experience, in 2005 he turned professional at 15, earning only £30 a fight.
After buying tickets for the family, he was left with only £15, but he was more than satisfied.

Canelo has maintained his passion for boxing and always demonstrated his talent in the ring. His journey was not easy, but he never stopped and worked on himself.
Now, focusing on the future, Canelo is preparing for an important fight against Terence Crawford, one of the most anticipated bouts in recent years.
“In my opinion, this is a very special fight, as it features two great boxers of an era competing against one another. This will be big,” he says.

This encounter is expected to attract great interest from fans and media, as both super titles could change the balance of power in professional boxing. Fans hope to see new experiences and impressive victories in the ring.
