The rat fled from a boy with a ball and disappeared behind the VAR monitor, after which it was never seen again.
Pest Control Policy Defense
Cardiff City operations chief Wayne Nash, who is also the security manager for the Football Association of Wales and UEFA, commented on the club's policy regarding pest control.
“This is the first time I've seen anything like this in my 36 years at Cardiff City.
“We’ve had a stray dog on the field before, but this was something new, extraordinary.
“The stadium is located near gardens and railway tracks, and we know that rats can be a problem. Rat infestations can occur along the railway.
“We know they’re in the area and sometimes we see them.
“But we are actively working with our pest control partners to keep them away.”
Stations for tackling rats have also been installed at the stadium, and the club assures that it strictly adheres to cleanliness regulations.
Nash continued: “We clean up litter and food, such as leftover burgers, right after matches. Everything gets tidied up.
“They say you’re never far from a rat in this city, and one of them managed to get to us.
“People find the sight of a rat on the field quite amusing, but it has serious consequences.”
“If I were the guy with the ball or Brennan Johnson, I would have run a mile.”
This situation has sparked quite a discussion, as high standards of safety and cleanliness must be maintained at stadiums. The discovery of rodents on a football pitch is rare but highlights the need to uphold proper pest control, especially in areas where food establishments and active transportation may impact the environment. Collaboration with specialists in this area is crucial for ensuring a comfortable match experience and the safety of spectators.
