Alcaraz defeated Djokovic at the US Open and won $400 in golf: how it happened.
Alcaraz defeats Novak Djokovic at the US Open
According to The Sun: Alcaraz avenged himself against Djokovic at the US Open, noting that Sergio Garcia owes him $200 for their golf game.
The 22-year-old Spaniard returns to the throne of the New York Slam after winning 6-4, 7-6, 6-2 against the Serbian veteran at Flushing Meadows.
AFPThis semifinal match was not as bright as expected, but Alcaraz, 16 years younger, appeared much fresher on the court.
The Spaniard took revenge on Djokovic, who defeated him at the Australian Open and in the Olympic final in Paris.
Path to the final
Over two hours and 23 minutes, aside from one break in the second set, world No. 2 effortlessly achieved his sixth victory in a row this week.
Now Alcaraz is preparing for the US Open final on Sunday, having not lost a single set, and will face either Jannik Sinner, world No. 1, or Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.
He noted:
“It feels great. Once again I am in the US Open final. It’s incredible. This is very important for me.”
“Today was not the best level of my game in the tournament, but I kept a decent level from start to the last point. I served well.”
Djokovic, who is 38 years old, has now not won a major title for the second consecutive year.
Although he had two days off after defeating Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals, he was again lacking in energy, and dreams of a 25th title were once again unfulfilled.
Golf game with Garcia
Alcaraz used his days off to play golf with Ryder Cup hero Garcia.
And while his compatriot won the Ryder Cup and the green jacket at the Masters, he lost to the tennis superstar on the golf course, giving him an early advantage.
Garcia, 45 years old, surely reached into his pockets when Alcaraz spoke on the court.
Alcaraz remarked with a smile:
“He owes me $200 now. I had two days and played with Sergio. We beat him.”
“It was a good day. We talked about how many strokes he should have given me. I won $400, nothing more to know.”

Alcaraz continues to demonstrate an impressive level of play in New York and has already shown his determination in his face-off against Djokovic. His success in the semifinal is another step toward achieving a major title at the US Open, where he eagerly awaits the opportunity to face the toughest opponents in the final. This tournament holds great significance for the young tennis player who seeks to leave a mark in the history of the sport. Read also
