Around the final: delays and emotions
This was the third major final in three months involving the two best tennis players in the world. The last time this happened in men's tennis was in 1964.
Unfortunately, Arthur Ashe Stadium, whose roof was closed due to bad weather, was half-empty at the start of the match.
All players underwent strict security checks reminiscent of an airport, implemented due to the president's visit.
“This is just madness,” said Martina Navratilova, an 18-time Grand Slam champion.
“All major tournaments have roofs. They start on time. People paid thousands of dollars for these tickets. After the start, it was half-empty here, usually it’s loud.”
