Iheanacho signed the deal before midnight, going through a busy day of negotiations.
Rogers, who previously worked with the striker at Leicester, believes that Iheanacho will be an important reinforcement for the team, especially considering the fans' dissatisfaction with current transfers. He noted:
“I know Kelechi well and what he can bring to the team. He is a very talented player with great ability, athleticism, and work ethic. I am sure he will love Celtic, and our fans will also appreciate his contribution. He has vast experience and is in his prime, so this could be a great signing for us. I am confident that he will make a significant impact on the team.”
Iheanacho signed a 12-month contract with the possibility of an extension for another year. Under Rogers, who urgently needed a new striker after the sale of Kyogo Furuhashi, fans hoped for active action from the club in the transfer market.
After numerous attempts to secure deals with other players, such as Patrick Bamford and Emmanuel Dennis, Celtic managed to finalize a deal with Iheanacho just minutes before the transfer window closed. The player made his entry into the team on the same day as Tuneka from Hammarby, valued at £5.2 million.
However, after the defeat in the Champions League playoffs to CSKA Almaty, fans expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of reinforcements. During recent home matches, shouts of 'Fire the board' were directed at the club's management.
Former striker Chris Sutton commented: “An amazing transfer window. Celtic came out of it even weaker. Perhaps Celtic is doing everything possible to secure a title in this role.”
The situation at Celtic remains tense. Fans expect the newly signed player to improve the team's results, as disappointing performances in the past season and news of defeat in the Champions League have led to frustration. It remains to be hoped that Iheanacho can win the fans back to the side of the team and elevate it to new heights. Read also
