The only club not attending the tournament is Paris Saint-Germain.
Both clubs will send their U16 teams to the six-day tournament, which will take place at the stadium and training field of Inter Miami.
The Argentine football legend announced the tournament on his Instagram page:
“Thrilled to finally share this with you. This December, Miami will host a very special youth football tournament featuring some of the top clubs from around the world.'
“The future of the game will be on full display, and it’s more than just matches – we’ve got an incredible few days planned with lots of other exciting activities. This is about the next generation. Hope you like it!”
The tournament is organized under the global media project Messi 525 Rosario, named after his hometown.
Tim Pastor, the CEO of 525 Rosario, noted:
“The Messi Cup is where today’s game meets tomorrow’s players.”
“It is an opportunity to celebrate talent, culture, and community, while creating legacies and bonds that will endure well beyond the pitch.”
Messi hopes this event inspires young players from around the world to be part of the future of football.
The tournament will feature 18 matches scheduled from December 9 to 14.
Chelsea is likely to feature players such as Josh Henry, George Jobling, Reggie Watson, Hezekiah-Daniel Grimwaid, and Erinyu Faromo-Adebayo, who have already represented England in youth matches in August.
Grimwaid, in particular, is drawing attention from fans on social media, boasting 148,000 followers on Instagram and a contract with Nike.
His posts regularly receive support from stars of Chelsea's academy such as Ryan Kavuma-MacQueen, Matis Ebowei, and Shim Mheuka.
He made his debut for Chelsea U18 in July 2024 and is highly regarded at the club.
There is active discussion online about Messi's connection with Chelsea, with fans claiming he 'loves' the club, while also recalling attempts to sign him in 2014.
The participation of the youth teams of Chelsea and Manchester City in the Messi Cup tournament for the third time in football history highlights the importance of nurturing young talents. This event is not only significant for the teams themselves but also for football fans who will be able to witness new stars on the field.
