Chelsea forces fans to buy season tickets for the Champions League: what is the protest about

According to The Sun: Chelsea fans express their outrage over the club's new ticket sales scheme.

The team offers a ticket package to attend all four home matches of the Champions League group stage, including encounters with Benfica, Ajax, Barcelona, and Paphos.

The club announced the packages on its official website, stating: “The Blues return to the grandest stage in Europe after a two-year break, and season ticket holders can already reserve their seats for the next four home group stage matches.”

The cost of tickets for season ticket holders for all four matches at Matthew Harding's Stadium will be £206, which is £51.50 per game. However, the problem is that the club requires fans to buy tickets for all four matches at once.

Season ticket holders who pay between £700 and £1,095 are outraged that they may be forced to leave their seats and move to a different one with a worse view or atmosphere if they do not purchase the package.

Criticism is growing as fans are concerned about the new scheme. One of them wrote on X:

“This is an absolute joke. If I do not buy the package, I cannot be sure that I will keep my place that I have paid for years.”

Another commentator noted:

“Does anyone else find this shocking? I won't be able to get my seat at Champions League matches if I do not buy one of these 'packages' by Monday.”

Another fan added:

“It's shocking that we are being forced to pay £200 upfront. If you don’t do this, you’re not guaranteed your seat as a season ticket holder, so basically, the club removed the option to buy tickets for matches for cash.”

Chelsea fans are extremely annoyed with the new scheme, especially after the difficulties with 'invalid tickets' and long queues before the first match of the season. Many were left without the opportunity to buy tickets due to issues on the website, even though they paid £60 for their season ticket.

As a result, the ticket sales situation raises concerns among the club's active fans. Many of them hope for quick changes in the system to improve the match-going experience and avoid similar situations in the future.
